When I saw Jamil Ortuoste moving around in crutches outside of the San Sebastian dugout last Monday, I felt the urge to initiate a conversation with him.

I did have a few short words with him before the end of the first half of the game between the College of St.

Benilde Blazers and the Arellano University Chiefs.

“Na sprain po ako nung Friday nung practice. Tapilok po,” said Jamil, who looked smart in blue long-sleeved shirt, khaki pants and black shoes moments before online scribe Diego de la Paz appeared from nowhere and began eyeballing him.

But he was not the only one I talked to afterwards, as Jamil mingled with teammates who were warming up.

A former point guard of the San Sebastian Stags introduced himself to me as their new team manager.

It was Kenneth Causon.

He made me recall who he was when he was still playing ball.
